2003 Edition My Heritage
SGS NEWS
A few new points have been proposed out to improve the site’s services for members. These are:
- A members list with the names of the members and the countries(no other data)
- Members in Serbia that are willing to do research for foreign members
- Enhancing the members page module, making it easier for members to create their own family page
- A English library on Serbian books that are useful,
Up until now we have updated our forums, they are now completely operational. Although this is the beta version of the forums, we expect the definite version to come out in 2-3 months.
Currently we are working on a separate heraldic page. We will fill this page with basically two main categories, namely family coat of arms and Civic coat of arms. The content of these pages will be for members only.
–Blacklist
The SGS will soon in cooperation with the SGF publish a blacklist of organizations that are fraud. Some members already made contact with organizations/individuals like these. You will receive an update on this as soon as the page is done.
–Locating places
The SGS advices member to use this site: http://easytour.dr-staedtler.de/ for locating towns in the region. It is most accurate and gives a customized map for those who wish it.
–SPAM emails
SPAM emails are one of the worse things that can happen. You don’t even need to surf on the internet anymore to receive them, robots on the net collect your data without you even visiting their site. There is a free tool that you can use if you use Outlook and some other clients. You can download this for free at: www.cloudmark.com
SGF NEWS
The foundation is currently investigating the status of the archives in Kosovo. With the future prospect of the province gaining independence the question will remain what will happen to the documents in the archives?
Contact has already been made with the EU on these affairs.
The archives of Serbia are having difficult times. As some members already experienced some archives such as the Belgrade archive don’t even pick up the phone. It appears that the government has not yet given the archives a yearly budget as was told to our chairman last March. Although we cannot verify this fact, the fact does remain that if the Serbian government doesn’t act soon on the issue of microfilming the archives, Serbia will not need any archives soon!
A simple example are the Zrenjanin archives, which were hit by a flood last season. The damage is unknown, in a communiqué with the foundation the archives admitted that they do not know what was damaged. Most of Serbia’s district archives are an easy prey to common house fires, or floodings.
Other points:
–Ottoman archives
The SGF is trying to contact the archives of Turkey to ascertain if members can write them for any information.
–Donation of equipment
The SGF has decided to halt its funding project for the Serbian Archives to purchase microfilming equipment due to a communication breach with the archives.
The SGF is filing a request for funding at the foundation of HRH Prins Bernhard of the Netherlands.
