Hi,

I'm wondering if I can claim myself as a croation national.
My mother was born in Erdvk in Serbia. Her hungarian mother was born in Erdvk and father born in Istria. Istria now belongs to Croatia yet at the time her father, my grandfather, was born and lived til 1944, it was Italy.

I was born in germany and grew up in the United states and have lived in germany for the past 11 years. I've visited Istria many times, love the area, people, culture, language and am considering in the future to be able to buy a farmhouse close to family there. My parents have lived in the U.S. since 1963. But alas, I hear that one needs to be a croation national to buy
property that is not jacked up for the wealthy which, as an artist I am far from.

Hi,

Well you are not a Croatian national for that matter. I would contact the Croatian embassy though to ask for advice on buying property. As for your father being from Istria, I dont know what his surname is.

Sergej

In reaction to the other posts you made. You should contact the city hall in the place where you were born. If you were born in Germany then you should go there for your records. You can check our link page for the address and contact them.

I would check the church records in Erdevik to see anything about children.

Regards,
Sergej
