Hi there

Would you be able to give me more information about the surname Džebhanić.
I'm guessing that the origin of the surname comes from the word caphana-džebhana which means ammunition.
The religion or way of life is Islam so no saints.

The only info i could find on the www.montenegro.org.au is this "Džebhanić, Pljevlja 1889. god."

Do you think it's possible to find any info preceding this year?

Thank you

Hi,

Do you have a bit more information. The name's origins are from the region but we need a place. Once you have a location it will be possible to find information before 1889.

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Sergej

Thanks for the quick reply.I'm not really sure what you mean since I've written Pljevlja an that's from 1889 onwards. So I have no knowledge where or what happened prior to that time. That's what I was trying to find out.

Hi,

You just said before you went to the Montenegro website. What did you do exactly so far? What did your research give you?

Regards,
Sergej

Hi ameera,

Did you look for Džebanić lastname, because džebhana was long time ago shorten to džebana, so i'm guessing that similar went with that lastname.

I have found Džebić and Džebrić in phonebook of Belgrade, no Džebhanić/Džebanić.
Also found this http://static.namesdatabase.com/names2/D/Z/Dzebhanic.html and http://bosnjaci.users.cg.yu/folklor.htm (there are still Džebhanić in Pljevlja according this website). Try to contact someone, if you only speak English no problem, I'll help you with translation.

Bogdan
