I have posted on here once before but I was referred again by Robert Jerin.

I am searching for my biological Great Grandfather.  He has signed notes as B.V. Papovich and Vaso Papovich.  One picture says his birthday is August 15th.  I estimate the birth year is 1899 plus or minus 5 years.

I have a ship manifest from Liverpool in 1914 that shows a Bozo Papovich with his father, Vaso Papovich listed as the nearest relative in his originating country.  It looks like the town he was born in could have been Njegusa, or another within 22 miles of Podgorica.  I understand men have taken their father's names as a middle names.  That could very well be the B.V. I've been looking for.  The age is right too.

Can someone help me find the church records for him?  I won't be able to interpret them to know if I have the right one or not.  Please let me know what I can do as I've been searching for a long time and truly appreciate any help anyone can give.

Hi,

I will look into it but please be patient - I have extensive vital records  research lined up for next couple of weeks and some extensive trip and archive visits coordination for our members to carry out.

Please  post the original ship manifests, your ancestors signature, anything you have so that we can analyze and interpret these documents.

If you do not wish to post them publicly send them to my email -  [email protected]

My experience is that it is best to start from scratch  - many times people have been given incorrect interpretation as to what the surname was or place of origin.

In the meantime, check our research section :

although the specific Montenegro research article is still not posted, many things such as vital records and other resources will be the same as those for researching Serbian ancestry.
