I have one question.

I need my mothers birth certificate and I tried to check the Novi Sad archive homepage but it is only in Serbian.

My mother name is Rozália Bartus born in Becsej in 1952.05.14 but she has moved to Sweden.
She is Hungarian and do not speak Serbian.

Do you know where I can get it from?

Is the birth certificate in Serbian or in both Hungarian and Serbian.

Thanks
Mikael

Hello Mikael,

Yes the Novi Sad website is in Serbian only. The only way to obtain a copy would be to write them or the church, depending to which religion she belonged. The birth certificate can be in both Serbian and Hungarian, but my bets are its in Serbian.

If you want you can become a member (only 25 per year), we can help you contact the archives, translate the documents for you from Serbian, Hungarian or even German for that matter.

I must warn you that the archives in Serbia are not the same as in e.g. western Europe. Nothing is microfilmed yet and although some archives have websites that doesnt mean they actually read or respond to emails. Snail mail is still the way to go, and as I said many times before to people patience is a virtue when it comes to research in Serbia-Montenegro.

Regards,

Regards,
Sergej

Hello All,

I am attempting to obtain my grandfather's and possibly myt great-grandfather's birth certificates from Beschka and/or Torschau. Could you point me in the right direction to obtain the form(s) and address to send to? Also, what would be the fee and how do I take care of this in USD? Thank you very much! Dee Gibson

Hi,

Well most likely they will not treat your request. Serbia's archives are in dire straits. Is your family Serbian/Orthodox? If they are Catholic you can use the LDS directory to locate information.

If there is material still inside Serbia you would have to either write them in Serbian(members can download templates) or hire a researcher.

Sergej
