Does anyone know where I could write for birth records for my grandfather who was born in Berane and my grandmother who was born in Cetinje in the late 1800s? Would I be able to write in English as I do not read or write the language? I wrote to an address in Cetinje a few years a go but never got a reply. Should I also send a return envelope with my query?

Thank you,
Sue

Hello Sue,

Most likely you would have to write in Serbian and there are no garantuee's. Unfortuanlly genealogical work in our region is a big challenge on that level. If you dont speak the language I advice SGS membership, we offer templates and help with small translations etc. More info you can read at the articles section.

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Sergej: Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am at a great disadvantage not being able to speak or read and write Serbian.

A small PS, things on the forums will be slower then usual this month because we are working on an update of the site that will change a lot for the better ;-)
