I'm trying to find information about my grandfather's ancestors. His name was Simo Boskovich. His father's name was Theodor Boskovich and his mother's name was Save Selencich. Granddad was from a small town in Herzeogovina named Mrkonjici, in Trebinje District. Granddad, his brother Obren Boskovich, and his cousin Vukan Cacich immigrated to San Bernardino CA, later relocating to Bard CA, right across the Colorado River from Yuma AZ. Obren returned to Mrkonjici to fetch his bride but ended up staying there with her. They had a sister in Mrkonjici named Anna. Vukan Cacich was from the same town Mrkonjici or nearby, maybe Drijenjani. If anybody can help me locate these families in this part of Herzegovina, or help me find an address for archival research in that area, I would be much obliged. Thank you. --Clayton Newberry, Vernal UTAH [email protected]
Clayton,
Search the forums, we posted the address of the archives several times already there. You can contact them and you should contact the Serbian Orthodox and CAtholic churches. One note though, because of the war many people are stranded with their research in the 19th century, some of them even in the 20th.
Regards,
Sergej
Thank you, Sergej. One question: how would the name Cacich have been pronounced in Serbian? We have always pronounced it as Chachich, with the each "ch" as in the English word "church" (not the hard ch as in the Scottish "loch"). Is our pronunciation correct?
And how would Boskovich, Cacich have been spelled in Cyrillic alphabet?
I have been scanning through previous posts, looking for the address of the archives in the Trebinje area. I have not found it yet. Might I suggest that, rather than sending members back to scan previous posts, looking for archive addresses, you simply post the addresses of archival sources right on the webpage, in a place which is user-easy to access.
Thanks again. I am so glad I discovered this webpage.
Respectfully,

Clayton, It would be in Latin: Čačić Cyrillic: Чачић The archival resources are also posted in the link section. We currently do not have enough volunteers to structurize and maintain the hundreds of pages we have.
Regards,
Sergej

you need to contact the Serbian Orthodox Church to track down the families from the parishes that covered these villages.

Look for descendants of these people and families to connect their ancestors to your family tree.
Original spelling of the other surname you mentioned -cousin VUKAN - is ĆAĆIĆ , and that family was from DRIJENJANI village, also TREBINJE municipality.
