Hi,

Could anyone tell me something about ĐŒakarević family.

My father was born in Kotraža near GuЍa, where were about 100 people with this last name. It seems that this surname exist in that region for about 200 years. Father thinks that our ancestress came “somewhere from Golija mountain near Nikšić”.
I have just found site www.malesevci.org.yu where is explained that ĐŒakarević surname is one of family names from Maleš tribe (named after duke Maleš who lived in late 14th and early 15th century).

Still, I don’t know when and how this surname is founded, and I miss about 400 years of history.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with tracing my roots.

Dejan ĐŒakarević

Hello Dejan,

Yes Čakarević is a branch of the Maleš tribe. Now the nice thing with genealogy is that not always people with the same surname are related and the only way for you to be sure if you belong to the Males tribe is to go to the archives.
My suggestions are:

1. Go to the city hall where you father was born and request his data and the form (izvod in Serbian) will also state the name of his father and mother.
2. Then dependning on when they were born you go to the local archives and search for their birth records.
3. Continue untill you can't find more information.

Now I presume you don't live in Serbia. So you would have to write the archives. If you do live in Serbia, visit them. Its the fastest way to find your ancestry. You need to find the person who first adopted the surname of Čakarević. That person we refer to as the patronim, he was either named after his father, profession, nickname etc. If there is a link to Golija mountain then you can continue to search there. It is however also possible that the ancestor in question was named after someone with that specific surname.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Sergej

Hi,

Does your family praising Saint Ignjatije? If Saint Ignjatije is patron of your family, there is no doubt that you belong to the Malesevci tribe.

Bye,

Brane

Yes,

Saint Ignjatije is our patron. So, considering that both surname and St. Ignatije as a patron is quite rare, I guess that there is a big chance that we belong to Malesevici tribe.

Still, I think that finding the patronim will be very hard.
I know that word “čakar” in Turkish means: green-eyed, blue-eyed, spottily-eyed; but also squint-eyed.
Since, almost all Cakarevic that I know have green eyes (my father, brother and me also), a guess that this explains surname origin.

Investigation continues.

Best regards,
Dejan

Dejan,
I agree with Brane that it explains and most likely you would be of the same branch. But either way you would have to "proof" it on paper by creating a pedigree and collectin data from the archives to be 100% sure. Thats the fun part of genealogy ;-)

Sergej
