Hello,
I am Kristina Cergnul. I am looking for information on the Cergnul family.I do not have alot of information to work with right now but this is what I do know:
The names that I am looking for are as follows;
Giulia Cergnul born around 1927
Ida Cergnul born round 1925
Maria Cergnul born around 1929
They also had a brother but I am not sure what his name was, possibly Walter.
Their parents names were Matteo and Elsa Cergnul they live around Rasa then called Arsia.In 1951 all three girls were in Belgrade working as nurses. If anyone has any information that may be helpful please respond. If you have any suggestions on what I should do to find these girls please also let me know. Thank you for your time and help.
Best Regards,
Kristina M. Cergnul
Hello Kristina,
I need to know a little bit more about the surname and its spelling like is it:
* Cerngul,
* Černgul
* Ćerngul
Or is it spelled differenlty?
Regards,
Sergej
Hello,
Thank you for your reply! The surname is spelled CERGNUL. I have seen it spelled CERJNUL before but I have not seen it spelled that way in the names of the family that I know of.I have some letters that my great grandfathers brothers sent him back in the 30's, 40's and 50's and they also spelled it CERGNUL. Is it possible that the name spelling could change for the when they went to Belgrade? Just a thought, please let me know if you need anything else you have any questions.Thank you in advance for your time and effort.
Regards,
Kristina
Hi Kristina,
Do you have the date of birth and place of any of them? And where did they work as nurses exactly?
Regards,
Sergej
Hello,
no, I do not know their birth dates. The only information that I have is the following:
In a letter dated 5-1-1928 Giovanni's Sister In Law Elsa Cergnul writes that they have two daughters Ida and Giulia.I do not have a envolope for this letter but it says Blato at the top by the date.
In a letter dated 6-13-34 Elsa write again and says that they have a new son but that they will never forget the pain of losing the one that was 4 years old.She also sends the ages of their girls they are Ida 9, Giulia 7, and Maria 5.
This letter does have an envolope! It has a stamp on it that says "ALBONA D"ISTRIA" 13-6-34. The return address on here is kind of hard to make out but here goes "Mittente Matteo Cergnul Albona Blatto"
In a letter dated 12-18-51 this is when Matteo Cergnul writes and says that his daughters are in Belgrade, they are nurses. This is all that he says about them.This letter at the top before the date says "Labin"
I Hope that with this information I can locate the lost family I am searching for. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Kristina M Cergnul
Hi,
I will need to know for what hospital or institute they were working. Maybe they worked with the Red Cross? Can you check if they ever worked for them before or for a similar organization?
Regards,
Sergej
Hello Sergej,
I am sorry, no I can't find out where. The only information that I have on them is what I have posted. This information came form letters written many years ago. Nobody in my family can help because they didn't even know about these girls until I told them. Is maybe a way to check in marriage records and see if they got married? Or birth and death records? did women when they got married keep their surname or take their husbands?I am sorry for all the questions but I am completely lost on how to find these girls.Thank you again!
Regards,
Kristina
Kristina,
Do you happen to know what religious background these people had? The best guess as to go on would be:
1. Write the central archives in Belgrade,
2. Write the church in question and see what they have,
Also, what nationality did they have? I presume they were foreign most likely Italian so maybe the Italian embassy archives may hold information as well.

Sergej
Sergej,
Thank you for your suggestions. I think that they were Catholic.Would it be possible for you to get the addresses that I need to write to for me? Also can I write to them in english? I really appreciate the help that you have been giving me!!

I think they can speak English but can't give any garantuees. Either way if this requires a lot of work you can always consider SGS membership.

Hello,
I have found out some new information about the girls that I posted I was previously looking for:
Maria Goricanec her maiden name was Cergnul. I do not know her husbands name but they lived in Blegrade. Maria was born around 1929 in the Alona/Rasa area to Matteo and Elsa Cergnul.
Giulia Linic her husbands name was Josip they also resided in Belgrade. Giulia was born around 1927 also in the Albona/Rasa area to Matteo and Elsa Cergnul.
I hoping to find these two girl still living in the area, or maybe their children. I thank you in advance for you time and efforts.
Best Regards,
Kristina Cergnul
Hello Kristina,
I will check it out tonight when I get back.

Sergej
Hello Sergej,
Thank you for your help in this matter. I will be waiting for your reply.
Kristina
Ok these are some tools that you can use to try locating them.
These are the two best I can give you know. Because of the age of the people they are still in city hall and not in the archives. So you would have to locate either the living by the phonebook or recently deceased that fit within the time limit.
Use this spelling: Černgul

Sergej
