Hello Charles,

I checked the immigration records and this is what I found:

First Name: Stanko
Last Name: Cvijanovic
Ethnicity: Hungary, Croatian
Last Place of Residence: Maljevac, Hungary
Date of Arrival: Aug 16, 1912
Age at Arrival: 27y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Ivernia
Port of Departure: Fiume
Manifest Line Number: 0004

The Ethnicity states Hungary, Croatian. That is because at that time those parts fell under the Austro-Hungarian Empire and all that lived in the territory that was adminstred by Croatia (part of that empire at that time) were named as Croatian. But the family is ethnically Serbian.

I attached a copy of the immigration document. His name is on line 4 with additional data.

Also a picture of his boat, the Alice on which he came.

The current Maljevac is in Croatia in an area which we call "Krajina" ( http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&searchtype=address&country=HR&addtohistory=&city=Maljevac ) The area is mainly inhabited by Serbs that guarded the borders against the Turks for 500 years. It is a border town next to the border of Bosnia. Its located close to Slunj. The area was heavily hit during the last Balkan wars and many refugees fled to Serbia proper.

The Cvijanovic family origanally comes from Ljubač, Plavno in Dalmatia and part of Montenegro. The question is from where your ancestor came. Do you have any other documents of relatives naming other places? I will check to see if there are any Cvijanovic still living in Maljevac.

Regards,

Regards,
Sergej

Found some more info. Your family originally comes from Dalmatia-->Ljubač, Plavno. Please check if you have a family saint with the name of Saint George.

Sergej

SERGEJ

I HAD FOUND A NOTE IN MY MOTHERS PERSONAL EFFECTS INDICATING THAT MY FATHER HAD TWO OTHER BROTHERS,MARKO AND PETRE. MARKO WAS THE ELDEST AND STAYED IN MALJEVACS,HIS BIRTHDATE WOULD BE PRIOR TO 1885. PETRE WAS BORN AFTER 1893 AND WAS KILLED IN WWI IN COMBAT AS PART OF THE AUSTRIA/HUNGARIAN ARMY SINCE HE WAS CONSCRIPTED.PETRE WAS THE YOUNGEST BROTHER OF 4 BOYS.

THANK YOU !!!
