My 5th great grandfather was Bartlomiej Dorochowicz. He and his family lived in the Suwalki region of Poland. Recently a cousin from Poland found me. He told me that his grandfather told him that the family moved to that region from Serbia in the 18th century, and that their surname was changed to the previously mentioned Polish spelling.
I would like to know how prominent this name is in Serbia. Is this it a common or not so common surname?
Next summer I plan to research the church records in the parish my ancestors attended in Suwalkski, with hopes of possibly learning where they came from in Serbia. In the mean time, I would be very interested in corresponding with anyone researching this name in Serbia.
Thank you very much ... hoping to hear from someone.

Hello Tina,
Yes you would have to know from what they came so it will narrow your research. It is a surname that appears to be used frequent. You can find them in Serbia, Montenegro and even Bosnia. I am not sure in what sense these would be related. but if you have more information after you check with the Church records I am sure we can help you out futher. You can use the links on our link page for the phonebook to see how frequent the surname is being used and where.

Dear Tina,
I am one of Dorovics (on serbian čorović or Djorović an on cyrilic ЂоровиС›). Genealogy of familly čorović is from willage Shekulari (Е ekulari) in Montenegro. Our ancestors moved from mentioned plase to several places in Serbia and Bosnia and as I read from you in Poland.
Regards.
