Hi Christina,

well I think that your grandgrandfather John Gregory or on russian Ivan Grigorijevich was descendant of the noble Russian Orlov family. So it is not Catherina (Ekaterina) Orlovic it is Orlov. It is coincidence with names Orlovic and Orlov.
In Orlov family there has been many mens with name Grigorij or Gregory on english.

Sergei or Brane,

Hope you are well today.

I found a tiny slip of paper in Mom's affairs: a receipt or note to the church in 1965, paid by her Mother?? It may be for the extact of her baptismal certificate, but also may be a clue. I have attached...it is old and the writing is fading in places, but there is on both sides a stamp - from the curch?? Please let me know what it says!

Thank you!
Christina

Yea its like a congratulations note to your mom I believe in which that person wishes her all of Gods blessings and a reference to some small amount that was paid. Some parts of the sentences are missing but it doesnt really give a clue on backtracking the line yet. I send the email to Belgrade so as soon as I have something for you I will put it here. Did you have a chance to install PAF?

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Brane,

Of course.....it's part of finding out who we really are! It, I assume, may also help in finding living relatives....to let them know of my Mom's passing.

Thank you!

Christina

Hi Sergei and Brane,

I've attached a photo of a gentleman my Mother spoke of often and my sister confirmed they remained friends for many years. Count Rosetti was the Greek Ambassador to Canada when my parents came to Montreal and my Dad was attached to the Greek Consulate. Interestingly enough, as I am trying to research various archives, I found his photo amoung the members of the League of Nations. This may be something important??

Thanks,
Christina

Good mornign Sergei and Brane - I have another piece of information which may be helpful:

Do you know of a street in Belgrade which was called Kosmajska? I believe the name was changed after the war to Marsala Birjuzova St. My sister informed me our mother lieved at Kosmajska 21. I looked at the area on Google Earth and it does not appear to be too far from Kalemegden. I do not know about the area or what it was like prior to the war, but thought perhaps one of you may know it.

Best regards,
Christina
