Hey,

I had a slow week, lots of work. I uploaded your data in the family tree so that is in there. I am checking with that friend of mine from Belgrade again this week to see if there is anything new. He is busy from what he told me so I dont know how fast it will be. I will be sending you a revised PAF file with some small corrections in the tree on spellings of Serbian names and such.

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Sergej,

I hope you are having a great week! The snow is finally melting here and it feels likes spring! Just wanted to check in with you - I know you will update me when you have news, but curiosity will always get the better of me!

Best,
Christina

Thank you Sergej,

I left a message on the other forum...could be a
relative...he would be much older than Mom's dad, but perhaps a cousin or uncle....or no relation at all! Any lead is helpful!

Any news from your contact in Belgrade?

I have been searching on my end as well and have nothing! There must be someone! They could not have dropped off the face of the earth??

Thanks and have a great weekend,
Christina

I talked to Danica and her husband used to be in class with a Obrenovic. So I will email her some info and she said she would get back to me asap. The Obrenovic family still lives in Belgrade so now we need to see which line they are and you.

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Sergej - thank you! That is good news. More new: Maria from the other thread was kind enough to translate the message on the back of the photo I sent you of a Military parade or review...please see below!

I sent my sister the message and the photo and she showed my father, who positively identified the signature and gentleman in the suit as George Stavros, the Greek Minister of Defence. It was he who helped my mother get my father out of Greece and I am so curious to know their relation, which seems to be one of great affection and respect for Mom. It is, I believe a clue to the importance of her family in some capacity.....your thoughts.....

FROM MARIA TODAY:

Hello Christina
I'm Maria and while I was reading your posts I found a photo with a milittary parade. The back of the photo is in Greek and I would like to give you the translation,

4 - 8 May 1948
11 Division

To my best friend and great patriot Mrs. Dorothea A. Athanasiadou, nie (or genus)Knezevitch as a sign of appreciation (respect) for everything that she has suffered in the name of her country.

1 or 9 .11.949? or 1949
Excuse me but I cannot make out the signature.

I really hope that this could help you in finding out as more as you can for your roots. I really understand how you feel since I am in the same place.we 'll keep in touch...

Sincerely
Maria Ovrenovits

I will comunicate with you again.Looking forward

Correction in my Greek: that man is Minister of Defence, George Stratos, not Stavros. Sorry my error!

Hi Sergej,

Hope this finds you well today!

I know you have been focused in the Obrenovic side of the family, as have I, but I have also tried to find info on the Knezevic and Orlov side - Russian roots. I have come up empty handed to date - has there been anything from your end or Brane's? I think he had mentioned checking with Russian sources, but do not know if he had time.

Thanks, as always,
Christina

You should email Danica at danica@rodoslovlje.com , she is one of our board members and knows the Obrenovic family in Serbia and she can help you out. Let me know if she replies as she is having internet connection problems.

Hi Sergej - just to let you know I have emailed Danica, but not yet heard from her. If she has internet problems, perhaps I may offer my home phone number: 514.528.8650 in Montreal. Please advise.

Have a great day!
Christina
