Sergej, Once again another phone call from my Aunt! She didn't know the parish. Did give me the family St....St.George.Hopefully that will help us?
Best Regards,
Sheila
Sheila,
Perfect, Sveti Djordje or Saint George. We have the same family saint
I will give you all the info for the letter and Parish this week, most likely at the end of the week or on wednesday. Depending on how much reports I need to finish.
As for the server error you encountered. It seems its gone so I think its a glitch. If you ever encounter it, email me with exactly what it says so I can fix it or tell the guys from Phorum to fix it.
Talk to you later,
Sergej
Regards,
Sergej
Dear Sheila,
I believe this would be also useful, if not for genealogical research, then perhaps for your knowledge:
we (the Serbs) who belong to the Serbian Orthodox Church, celebrate St. George on May 6th every year -- this holliday is in folk tradition called "Djurdjevdan", because "Djuradj" is one of the variations of personal name George in Serbian language. Other variations of George are: Djordje, Georgije, and nicknames are Djuro (in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro) and Djura (in Serbia), depending on actual dialect spoken in each Serb country.
Now you know on which day you can send your greetings to your aunt (and to me, of course )) (St. George is my family's patron saint as well), and someday you might wish to join the tradition of celebrating St. George as well.
Let's mention this, too -- St. George is one of the most frequently celebrated patron saints by Serb families. We could say he belongs to the top of the "top list", together with St. John, St. Archangel Michael, St. Nicholas and others...
Be in good health.
Sergej and Sara, Thanks for the information on our family Saint. Now that I know this information. It's back on the internet to do some reading!!Again thanks
His name is Sasa
Sasa, My apology. Guess I should put my glasses on more often!
Best Regards,
Sheila
No problem, Sheila
BTW, it is written Саша (Cyrillic alphabet) or Saša (Latin alphabet)
but pronounced as Sasha -- like in Russian language.
Be well.
