I am searching for information about my wife's ancestors. According to the family stories "Johann Feckter (Fechter) was the mayor (Burgomeister) of the Austrian town of Weisskirchen, where he lived in 1848-1850. Johann had a son, Jacob Fechter (Feckter), born around 1850 that married a local girl named Elizabeth Becker, in 1872, whose family owned some vineyards in the area and operated a wine company. " The reference to wine leads me to believe that the Weisskirchen they talk about is the present day Bela Crkva. I am wondering how I can find out if Johann Fechter was truly mayor around 1848 in Weisskirchen/Bela Crkva.

I would certainly appreciate any assistance anyone could give to me concerning the line of Johann Fechter and the Beckers of Weisskirchen.

Thank you!

Fechters are DonauSchwaben. I think the quickest way to get info from Bela Crkva is to click on the Serbian Webring link at the frontpage and click on the link of Bela Crkva. You can email them for info they speak English.

The Catholic and Protestant archives of Vojvodina have been microfilmed. You can access them through the Family History Library of the LDS church.

Have the Serbian Orthodox records been filmed by the LDS? Do you know if the Radix site includes Serbian families? Would love to know! Judy

Most likely not. The SOC doesnt like the LDS church and therefore they do not allow microfilming. Serbia knows tight privacy rules and if there would be anything microfilmed then most likely you can find at the FHLC because they fear the "plundering" of their national heritage.

Best thing to do is to contact the FHLC or the archives in Serbia directly for family related data.

Sergej
