Donna,

I put the into here so we can talk about it because I am not always sitting behind the same machine. Your family lived in the Krajina area which has some history. Krajina was a military region during Ottoman Occupation of the Balkans. The Krajina region was mainly inhabited by Serbs that fled from Serb lands and that served in the Austrian army. They were rewarded for their services by having titles and lands in Krajina. I will check some documentation for you to get some more info. Let me know if you can access all site sections without problems.

Regards,
Sergej

I am still checking on some info but from what I see the names that you mention are Slovenian of origin.

http://www.mid-wi.com/genealogy/charts/bukovec.html

Jamnik is a place in Slovenia.
Smarje is in Slovenia as well: http://www.smarje.com/

I will get later in touch with you, just some links for you in the mean time ;)

Regards,
Sergej

Hello Sergej: The website you gave me in Slovenia (www.smarje.com) does not list an alternative for English. Is there another one there somewhere that will let me get into it in English? Thank you in advance. Donna

I emailed one of our members. He is the president of the Slovenian Genealogical Society. Your research will be interesting because you will cover more then 1 country.

The site is only in Slovenian. I am gather some more info for you on the other surnames.

Sergei has told me about your query on Serbian site. It seems that your ancestors were from Slovenia. At least Franc Jamnik probably was from Dobrepolje. Ana Bukovec also sounds more Slovene than Croatian or Serbian. Bobnarica is probably wrong spelled since there is no such place in Slovenia.
Anton Perme and Smarje is probably correct.
Where did Ana Bukovec got married. Was it in USA? Have you seen her marriage record?

Regards, Peter Hawlina, Slovenia

Hi Sergej: Thank you for recent message. This is going to be a big job locating ancestors in two countries, isn't it? But, also, going to be rather interesting. I appreciate your email to Mr. Hawlina. I have received a message from him and will answer next. Thank you again for your help.

Have a nice day

Donna

Hello, Peter: Thank you so much for your message. I will reply, as best I can:

I have not seen a marriage certificate on Ana Bukovec. Attempting to locate information on that subject. Ana Bukovic's baptismal was in Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Province of Sava. Father Nikola Buhovac, mother Maranot Podrevanac Lukach.

She married Franciscus Jamnik, date unknown yet. First of 6 children born was May 26, 1909 (US) Frank John Jamnik. On baptisman records at St. Mary's Church, Pueblo, CO., Anna and Frank Jamnik both list Krain, Carniola, and she also lists Zakarija, Croatia.

On the 1920 US Census, as head of house, she lists, Austria, Slovene. She then remarried Anton (Tony, Anthony) Perme in 1920. There were six children born to this union.

Perme's death date is December 25, 1967. Ana's death date is August 31, 1976.

I will continue to attempt to locate family in order to obtain marriage information to Jamnik.

I thank you in advance for your help and assistance in attempting to locate my ancestor.

My best regards,

Donna

PS: On 1920 US Census, it is listed as 1910 when she immigrated to US.

Dobropolje is close to the Croation border.

You also asked me about this data a while ago:

Quote:
My Grandfather, Steve Radakovich, DOB: aabt 1879, death death ll/22/1918 (flu epidemic); 2nd Grandfather Nick Radakovich, DOB: 12/19/1885, death 9/13/1975, & immigrated to United States in 19l0. My Grandmother was Andja Radovich (Radakovich), DOB:4/18/1886, death 1116/1944, immigrated to United States is 1910, also.

Do you know from where they came?

Regards,
Sergej

Hello, Sergej:

My first grandfather, Steve Radakovich, died 11/22/1918, burial 11/24/1918, address 1725 Abriendo Ave., Pueblo, CO, wife and four (4) children: Angela (Andja), Michael (Minch); Mildred (Milka); Daisy (Danisa); Irene (Saja) who is my mother. Steve had one (1) brother Radi of Pennsylvania (US). He is listed as 38 years old when he died. This is all we know about him. Most of the family of Radakovich was from Yugoslavia (Jugoslavia).

My second grandfather, Nick Radakovich, lists in the 1930 US Census as from Jugoslavia and Servian, arriving here in 1910. He had three (3) sisters at time of death in Yugoslavia. His Social Security records lists his father as Mike Radakovich and mother as Mary Stanich.

My grandmother, Andja (Angela) Radakovich (Radovic (h), is a three-time Radakovich; born a Radakovich, and then married twice a Radakovich. The 1930 US Census lists her as from Jugoslavia and Servian. Immigration to this country is listed as 1911.

I hope this information will be helpful to you. If I learn more of my grandfather Steve, I will let you know.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Donna

Hi,

Did you check with EllisIsland if it says any place of birth on any document. Or do you have any documents like e.g. pictures anything that can give away a place inside what was then Yugoslavia, because the country was pretty large.

Regards,
Sergej

Hello, Sergej: I haven't located any pictures of grandparents taken in Yugoslavia. I did learn that my 2nd grandfather, Anton (Tony) Perme listed in his Social Security Application that he was born in Libak, Yugoslavia. My grandmother Anna Bukovec on her SS App. listed she was born in Karlovec, Jugoslavia.

The date of death for grandfather Frank Jamnik is 9/30/1918, Pueblo, CO. I have a copy of his death certificate. Lists Austria as birth place. This info is by my grandmother Anna Jamnik.

I cannot find anywhere at EllisIsland where they list dates of birth or places of birth. Is there a separate catagory for that information or do they supply that?

Hope this information is helpful.

Have a nice day,
Donna
