My name is Bojan Franovic, I was born in Canada. When I was a kid, everyone always told me my last name was Croatian, so I did some searching, and asked my dad a few questions about the family. This is what I have so far.
I know my family is from Gornji Brceli, in the Crnmicka Nahija. We aparently had a hand in building the monastery there.
I also know the succession of Fathers to sons some ways back.
Grandfather: Sako Franovic
Great Grand Father: Pero Franovic
Great Great Grand Father: Nika ????
Great Great Great Grand Father: Marko ????
It stops there. My father told me the story of how we were initially Mitrovici, but had to change our last name because of a curse laid on our family that our numbers would never increase (Always one father, one son) and apparently after they changed names to Franovic we began to multiply.
If anyone can help me figure out what happened, and whether there really is some history to this story, I'd appreciate it greatly.
Hi,
Presuming you are refering to Crnmicka Nahija in Montenegro. You would have to write the archives in Montenegro for that (search forum for address).
Its possible they changed surname because of a "curse", its also possible that they changed surname after adoption of child. But thats all speculation. You should get the precise data and write the archives and see if they have any documentation.
