RE: my grandfather: Serbian KOCIC ? - KOZIC ? - GEORGIJ became KOSITCH, GEORGE in America
Where -- in Serbia -- did our Family Name or Tribe come from ?
Is KOZIC the correct spelling of my grandfather's Serbian Family name and
tribe ?
G'pa was born in Hungary - Medina (Tolna county)
-- his parents names were translated as: JOVAN and TIJANA ... I know nothing more of my great-grand-parents.
... from Old Slavonic Serbian Orthodox christening record of 1878 ...
the Hungarian Archivist could not accurately translate the spelling of my
paternal grandfather's family (tribe) name
-- 1878 Church record = KOZIC, GEORGIJ, GEORGII
-- 1904 ship = KOSZICS, GYORGY - Magyarized on German manifest
-- 1910 US Census = KOSEITCH, KOSSITCH, KOZSITCH, George
-- 1920 US Census = KOSITCEITCH, KOSITEEICH, George
-- 1930 US Census = KOSITCH, George
Thank you for your observations / opinions / comments / direction

Got some more questions
* From where are the church records?
* Did you check with the Hungarian archives?,
* Does your family have a family saint?

Thank you for, Serg, for your reply -- to answer your three questions:
1.) Church record: ... from Old Slavonic Serbian Orthodox CHURCH christening record of 1878 in Medina (Tolna) Hungary --
2.) I paid the Hungarian BUDAPEST ARCHIVIST to find this record for me -- they could NOT accurately translate the spelling of my paternal grandfather's family (tribe) name
3.) No one from my family remains alive to ask for the FAMILY SAINT -- this, too, is an other question for which I seek the answer -- perhaps if I learn where Georgij's parents came from -- I can also learn who was my Family saint.
Again, thank you for all future observations -- answers -- directions --- ms. ellie Http://www.Kositch.us
It would help looking at a scan of those records. Your family could be Serbs living in Hungary for hundreds of years as there is a minority there. They could also be immigrants. Either way the answer lies with the Hungarian archives and Churches in that region. Once you see that one of your ancestors moved from Serbia you can look at the Serbian archives.

Sergej
