i was hoping that i might be able to get some help to getting to know a little of the place my grandfather came from.his surname was gostich and came to the uk as a displaced person after the second world war, where he met and married my grandmother and raised 12 children until his death in the late 1980s.though i knew my grandfather and spent many happy times with him he never spoke to us children much about his past.i remember his brother visiting once in the 70s but i believe he had sisters as well.i have his dp papers and it names his home town as kaprivna and nationality as serbian.i know that he was a royalist and had photos of alexander and peter in his home for as long as i remember, and i was always told that the gunshot wound he had came from the war and that he had left yugoslavia through mountains into italy but i have no way of knowing if this is true or not as by the time i became interested in genealogy he had sadly died as had my grandmother.

regards

hi

i have very little info i will tell everything that i know and hopefully someone might be able to give a little more info as i would dearly love to know more.
his name was dragutin gostic born kaprivna and was a serbian orthodox his parents names were milan and bosiljka,he was in the army and his regiment loyal to king and general mihailovich.then as far as i was told after the partisan over run the regiment he managed to get out of yugoslavia through to italy.i have his dp card dated 1947 and he was in seedorf camp british zone.he later came to england and was never able to go back to yugoslavia as he said he was classed as a traitor by titos government. But he never went into details.i know he brothers milutin and george and also 4 sisters.he never saw any of them again apart from milutin who i remember visiting england in the 1970s.

regards gostic

You should write to the archives and Serbian Orthodox Churches. We do offer membership for people where people can download letter templates and such. Also, we have one member who's grandfather served under General Mihajlovic so you do have something in common and he is already moving ahead with his research.

Sergej

thankyou for your answer,i have written to the church.i have my aunt calling with papers that my grandfather had so i will wait to see what these are before i go to the archives,as i have been in touch with them and they informed me that the records of displaced persons are not very easy to find for a particular person, after the war.i have been in touch with your member through his website and he has been a great help to me and it was him that suggested this site.
thankyou again

Hi Gostic - Checked the receipt for money. It appears that your grandad was paying into the combatants fund. This turns things round as I had assumed they were getting money from the association for aid in ressetlement. They were paying money in the hope of gaining enough strength to return home and at ÂЈ1 a donation would have been a considerable amount in those days.

Hi Pat - Still trying to read paperwork but this in crylic. Keep getting the word HONOURED. Try attach here for accurate reading.
Also try Ravne Gore Hotel in London. They may have records and have a combatatants website.
