Hello,
I am new to searching this side of my family. My other side is from Scotland (easy). I have never know very much about my maternal family tree.
My mother was:
Rosina Brostyan
b. 23 April 1929 Jarek, Yugoslavia (13.5 km NNE of Novi Sad)
Her father:
Peter Brostyan
b. 15 December 1889 Novi Sad
Her mother:
Margareta Wild
b. 10 June 899 Jarek
My mother did say in the past (she has passed away), her mother's people spoke Schwabish. I am completely new to searching in this part of the world. I would really appreciate any advice on where to begin.
Thank you
Georgia
My parents spoke yugoslavian and I remember 'schvaba' & 'schvabski' coming up. it was something about them being germans from Yu or speaking a german based dialect
Hi,
Your family would be German of descent, also better known as DonauSchwaben. Serbs refer to them as Schwaben for that matter. They are basicly Germans who migrated throughout Serbia and the rest of Europe.
THe best to do would be to write to the archives of Novi Sad (see link page), you have full names and dates of birth so it wouldn't be too hard. Also there is a link on the Donauschwaben community on the link page you might want to check out.
Hope this helps.

Sergej
The LDS Church has finished microfilming the archives of protestand and catholic churches. You can access it through the Family History Library of the LDS church
