I have been trying to get more information about my Grandfather Karl or Carl Hettich. He was born on or about October 23, 1883, in Brestowatz, Bresztivac, or Brestovac. He came to the United States in about 1909. He died in the early 30's in Milltown, Middlesex County, New Jersey. I know that there have been court hearings where my grandfather was suppose to pay the judgements. He was the owner of Anton's house at one time.My father, Thomas Hettich, was his only son and died in January of 1968. Rose is his daughter who is still alive and living in New Jersey.

Carl had a brother Lenhart who died about 1911 in the old country of blood poisioning. His wife's name is Dominika Geiger. She came to the United State around 1912 with her sister Teres Geiger. She and Lenhart had three children, Joseph, Teres and Barbara. Joseph and Teres stayed with their grandfather, Anton Hettich, until they came to the United States. Barbara died as an infant. Carl had a sister, Amalia, I do not know if she ever married because I have no other information about her. Lena was another sister and she was married to a Schafer and lived in Belgrade, at the time of my grandfather's death she was mention in the obituary. We have a picture we think is her and she had two sons and two daughters. Carl was a twin and had a twin sister, Rosina or Rosa. She married Thomas Ruff and they had one child Joseph who was born in the old country and moved to the United States around 1912. I believe he had a sister. Eva, who was married to Yosef Tollmer, who had a daughter named Marie.

Anton was married to Teresa Eiy and she was the mother of the above children. She died and Anton was married to Karolina. I think Anton was born around 1853.

Anton's father's name was Michael and he was married twice. To Helen Flech and then to Rosa. I do not know if there are any other children. I only know about Anton. Michael's father's name was George. I do not know his wife's name and I do not know if they had any other children.

If anyone has information in regards to this family or the area, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Rosemary,

I am just checking, which Brestovac are we talking about? The one located close to Nis? Or the one close to Bor (Brestovacka Banja)?

Did you ever contact the archives of Serbia and the German community in Serbia? I would like to point out that we offer membership for people to assist them with their research. We don't offer researchers but we do help you with translations in Serbia and German, contacting archives etc.

Regards,

Regards,
Sergej

According to the letters from my great grandfather Anton Hettich it was located by Pancsova, Kubin. I am just starting and need help in finding out where to find the information. I have a sister who will be going to the old country in a few months.

That would be Pančevo and Kovin. We have members there that possibly could assist. You would have to check with the archives in Pančevo and church records in Pančevo and Kovin.

How long does your sister plan to go there? The archives are not microfilmed so you will need to do all work manually ;) and that takes some time.

Sergej

I am not sure how long she will be there. I just know this fall some time. Do you have the address for these places so that I can tell her where to go? We need all the help that we can get since we only have letters from my great-grandfathre, Anton Hettich to go by. Please help us if you can with the addresses and such.

Well, where will she be staying? Does she know anyone there? Does she speak Serbian?

You can find the addresses of the archives here on the forum, just use the search option for that. I dont know what you specifically need?

Sergej

I hope that if anyone has responded to the Hettich inquiry could you please send them to my e-mail. I do not remember how to get it. Should I redo this. I also would like to know if you do things for Hungary which is now part of Romania?

Thanks
Rosemary

I do not have any more information except when carl married my grandmother, Katherine Decker he was close to thirty or thirty. They were married in Kisbeckert, Hungary on Feb 19,1812. As far as I knew she was his first wife. On the 1930 Census he stated that he was in his early 20's. I have talked to a few relatives that said they had heard he was married before. He was the first family member to come to the United States Dominika Geiger Hettich and her sister, Teresa Geiger were the next family members to come over. Thomas and Rosina Hettich Ruff came next. He followed Katherine or Katalin back to Hungary and married her on her 19th birthday.

I have also found information about a Gertrud Decker Wert that did not come to the America but lived in Kisbeckert.

Kropp was my great grandmother's last name. Peter came to America with Konrad, and Margit or Margaret Decker, came over.

Well from what I read from the other posts your best bet is the archives of Pancevo and city hall in Kovin.

Sergej
