I am in USA and looking for any Kukic's or Peric's related to me. We have been in USA for about 100 years. The family was brought here by Marko Kukic and his wife Latinka Peric, other Kukic and Peric relatives also came to USA.All I know is we are serbs and our family is orthodox, our family bred horses in yugoslavia. I do not know what town my family is from but I would like to know and if any relatives I would like to meet them too.
There are probably Kukic's who are not related to me as I hear it is a common name.I f anyone has any information on my family or you are a relative, please contact me.
if there are any church records like baptism records or anything, I would like to see them.
god bless

I have tried the ellis island records and there is so many Kukic's that came, I cannot tell who is who, all the Marko's came at the wrong time, too late to be my great great grandfather, and no info on any Peric's let alone my great great grandmother.I am pretty sure they came separately and she came here after he did, but I can't find any records of either one of them. They lived in Export, PA after they got here but I can't get ahold of anyone with the orthodox church there as I am in california.
can someone please help me.
Can you provide me with the exact date of birth and place of your ancestor? I will check into it
Regards,
Sergej
I do not have any paperwork that stretches that far back, the only thing I have is a death certificate of his son, my great grandfather Milovan Kukic, but he changed his name to Miller Cook and our family has gone by the last name Cook ever since, because americans cannot pronounce slavic names without screwing them up.He had a brother and several sisters, all that side of the family is in Pennsylvania as far as I know but I never met them.I'm pretty sure they go by Kukich but there are probably many Kukic's or Kukich's that might not even be related to me because I looked on ellis island records before and came to the conclusion it must be a common last name.
Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Mikey
Could you give me the info of Milovan Kukic then. YOu need a date of birth and place of one person.
Also do you know what family saint your family had/has?
Regards,
Sergej
His birthdate was september 16, 1907, in Export, Pennsylvania. His name on the death certificate is Miller John Cook, I am not sure if he americanized our names, or his father, because his brother's name is Nicholas, and he had 3 sisters Sadie, Sarah and Marie. So I don't know what his name was on the birth certificate. My grandfather just told me his grandmother (Latinka Peric), went by the name Laura, which I find strange because supposedly her and her husband Marko spoke serb only, they never bothered to learn english here in america and if they did know any it was very little, but their children were bilingual.I do not know our family slava because my family here in california became protestant a long time ago due to lack of orthodox churches and marrying english women.
I do not know when that occurred either because when my family came here to california they went to a church in san pedro that was all yugoslavs, I do not know if that church is still around and I do not know if it was protestant or orthodox. There may have been both serbs and croats there because that's how san pedro is and there used to be a little pan slavism there between us, this was right before world war 2.I can guarantee you it was not a catholic church, because my family has never been catholic.
I appreciate all the help I can get, thank you for taking the time to help me

Happy New year and Mery Christmas
Hello Davor, it is very possible that you are my cousin.
you can email me at [email protected]
it would be nice if you were really my cousin
I have found an immigration record for Marko Kukic but it will not tell me the year unless I pay ancestry.com $30 US, I refuse to pay it because I am not guaranteed this is my relative at all, if I knew what year it was (anywhere in between 1890-1905) I would know if it was my great great grandfather
Yes that is the problem with Ancestry.com they are a commercial enterprise.
What about EllisIsland?

I've tried the ellis island site before but last time I did there wasn't very much on there, it seems other sites have better ellis island records then the official site
also I found out that a lot of serbs came in to the USA from canada around that time, as I saw a documentary on ellis island that said they turned alot of people away, I think its logical that those rejected there would go to canada and try to get in from there
I can't remember if what I saw on ancestry.com was from canada or ellis island, plus I'm pretty sure there was other points of entry for immigrants too, but ellis island was the main one
Yes, I dont know if there is a way around. But its pivotal to identify the person who immigrated. Once you determined who it is and where they are from we can help out further.
You cna also try the local phonebook to see if you cna locate family that stayed behind.

Sergej
zanimljivo od mojeg deda brat se je zavo slavko i umro je tak negdje ne znam kad točno
Maybe we are related somehow as well. My maiden name is Kookich, which was changed from Kukic. My grandfather was Ilja (Eli) Kukic, born on July 20th, 1883. He came to the US in 1905 on the La Bretagne. My grandmother is Mary Radelja and I know very little about her origin. He listed his last place of residence as Dubrava and his destination was McKeesport, PA.
Sergej, is there any records available for my grandfather?
