Hello,

My name is Christina and I was born and raised in Canada. My mom, however, was born in Belgrade and I know nothing of her family. I want very much to find any relatives and know my heritage.

If someone can help or knows of this family, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated!

My mother's name was Dorothea Athans née Knezevic. Born in Belgrade, March 15 ca. 1928. Religion: Orthodox

Her father: John Gregory Knezevic....heard he was military???? Serb? Croatian?
Her mother: Maria Natasha (or Natasha Maria) Obrenovic. I believe she passed away in the late '70's.

My mom emmigrated to Athens, Greece in the mid 1940's and met my Dad. They came to Canada a few years later.

If this information can help someone to recognize my family and help me find them or information about them, I would be greatful.

Thanks so much! Sorry...I don't speak any Serbian / Croatian.

Christina

Hi Christina,

No problem, I will look into it. Did you try to write the archives in Belgrade yet?

Regards,
Sergej

Hi Sergej,

Thank you for the quick response.

Yes I had sent an email some months back, but received no reply. I sent another yesterday as well as one to the Belgrade cemetary in an attempt to find any burial records.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,
Christina

Hi,

I sent them in English as I don't speak Serbian. The contact links were within the webpages.

Thx
Christina

Most likely the people that received it dont speak English. So you need to write the letter in Serbian (but that is not a garantuee anyone will respond), you can join the SGS, we offer a letter template and help people out with their translations. We also call for people on occasion to the archives to inquire about send letters to see if they arrived or not. I would recommend though to send the letters with some form of tracking so you know they actually arrive there. It is not really the US e.g. where letters always arrive.

Regards,
Sergej
