I am trying to piece together my Father's background. He comes from a little village called Gornje Stiplje near Svetozarevo), and he immigrated to Australia around 1959. He once mentioned to me that his Father's side of the family originated in the Kosovo area.
How do begin to research? My Mother told me that records were not kept as many people were born at home. I was wondering if military records would give some clues?
Our family name is Milovanovic, and any info how to backtrack would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
Hi,
You would have to write to the archives in Krusevac and see if they have any birth certificated on your father.
Records were kept since that was required by law, even if you live in a small village. You can find the archives address in the message list.
Military records are hard to research since most of the time they are restricted. I would first try your avarege birth and baptismal records.

Sergej
BTW, I have been at the archives of Krusevac and they are very helpfull.
If there is anything else let me know.
