Hello,

Does anyone have information on Mirkovic family near OtoЍac, Lika, Croatia? I am descended from a member of this family, who came to America in the early 1900s. His brothers and sister may also have immigrated to America. Please contact me to exchange information.

Thank you!

Hello Sergej,

Thank you for your response. My great-grandfather did not come through Ellis Island; I was told that he came here as a stow-away as a young man and the lack of records of his immigration seem to confirm this (I have searched Ellisisland.org, ancestry.org, etc). Unfortunately I never learned the names of his brothers, only that his sister's name was Eve, Eva, or Evica. I am hoping that someone else related to this side of my family can fill in the missing gaps...church records have helped with identifying his village, and I know his occupation. Also, the English "translation" of his father's name was "Mike," I do not know what the Serbian equivalent was, but his father stayed in the Old Country.

Thank you.

The problem is that Mirkovic is a common name.
If he was Orthodox it would help if you know a family saint (Slava). Do you have a date of birth?

Regards,
Sergej

Yes, he was born January of 1890, and first name was Djurdje (spelling?); the English equivalent was George. My family was also Orthodox, but the Orthodox church they went to in America did not have their Slava recorded.

Ok, you should check on the frontpage and use the archival network page and locate the closest archive and write them. THat would be the best option for now.

Sergej
