Hello,
My name is Nick and I live in the United States. My mother is from Serbia and I am a dual-citizen with our native land. I'm very interested in genealogy but there is only so much I can learn from my relatives, as nearly all of them have passed on and virtually none of us are in America.
My mother's father was Milovan Nepergaća of Zrenjanin (1926-1991), son of Živa Nepergaća and Sofia Trifunjagić.
Živa was the son of Milan Nepergaća and Danica Vidin of Zrenjanin. I know the Nepergaća family immigrated from Hercegovina in the 18th or 19th century.
Sofia was the daughter of Obrad Trifunjagić and Draga Glavaški of Banat. I believe they were from Novi Becej and Kumane.
I need help with learning more about these families. That is all the information I have. Please help 🙂
Hello Nick,
I will respond in detail later this week, the holiday season is kinda busy. Either way, happy holidays!
Regards,
Sergej
Thank you!

I don't know if you know any Serbian? But it will make your research a lot easier. The good thing is you have citizenship, so you should be able to access the archives without problems. Do you ever go to Serbia?
The family saint for the Nepergaca family is Sveti Luka, does this ring a bell? Knowing the family saint is important.
Now all the names you listed did come from Herzegovina and a lot have moved to Vojvodina during the course of the centuries. Can you let me know if you know any Serbian at all? This will help me direct you in the right way as well. Also do you have any of the birth/death certificates?

Sergej
I won't be back in Serbia for at least another year. I can speak Serbian but I'm not entirely fluent yet.
Sveti Luka is the patron saint for our family, yes - how do you know? Do you have information about the family?
I don't have any of the certificates. I don't have names going beyond my great-great grandparents either. I need to find this information somehow.
Let me get some info together and post that here for you. I'll have it this weekend.

Sergej
There are some authors in Serbia that did research in the past. One of them has published a book that can be found online: https://www.scribd.com/document/352687491/Jovan-Erdeljanovic-Srbi-u-Banatu or https://books.google.nl/books/about/Srbi_u_Banatu.html?id=JmNpAAAAMAAJ&redir_esc=y
Now you don't need to buy these books. They do mention your family and how they came generally to the Banat. But in order for you to get your branch of your family tree you should go with the names of you parents and grandparents to the municipality of these towns. You can then request their data as you are family and have citizenship. All you need to do is trace back each branch and write it down. So you can find the missing info and go further until the first registration. With regard to them moving to Banat, this happened during different times. Some came earlier and some came later.
You might even access some records online: http://www.novibecej.rs/

Sergej
It won't let me access the book and I don't have an account. Could you email me the part that shows my families?
What does it say about my families' migration to Banat?
IZ “MATICE ZA 1768. GODINU’
NEPERGAĆE (Sv. Luka)
GLAVAŠKI (Sv. Ignjatije), došli iz Gornjeg Bečeja, najveća familija u Vranjevu
FROM "Municipal records 1768"
NEPERGAĆE (St. Luka)
GLAVAŠKI (St. Ignjatije), came from Gornji Bečej, the largest family in Vranje
So the details are found in those books, besides this listing there is nothing else in that book.

Sergej
