As you can see we limited the forum to members only. As described on the frontpage we did this to reduce our server costs and our time. Most of us are volunteers and the many posts on the forums made it virtually impossible to maintain any form of quality. On top of that a lot of SPAM accounts were made and we spend a lot of time filtering those.
If you have any questions feel free to post them in this topic

The e-books will be online again tomorrow and the interactive maps as well with some luck.

Hello...I am wondering when Search function will be working again? I am trying to research a couple of specific surnames and locations, and it would be much easier to use Search instead of reading every post 😉

Au, forgot to activate that 🙂
It's available now via the left hand menu under Member content.
Let me know if it works properly.
BTW, the Google maps are not up yet as they should. They will be soon, but we need to process more then 70k users and their content so it takes some time.

I'm not sure if this is related to the forum transition, but part of the text is cut off on the right hand side. I'm using Chrome version 58.

I am curious about older threads. If I reply to a thread initiated by a user who is no longer a member, would they receive a notification and would they have any way to respond to me? If not, is there a way that I can tell if they're not a current member and get their contact information?

We had this debate earlier before we decided to put the forums behind the membership wall. Our experience is that a lof people that don't have an active membership don't keep track of their account and over time change email addresses. We tried to counter this in the past with reminders and newsletters but that didn't really work.
In the end it works like this. If people that email addresses are still valid they will get an email notification that there has been a reply like you get right now. Its up to them if they want to react or not if they do get the email. We can't provide people their contact information, this is for them to do. On top of that, most people don't include their home address in the account page. If you click on a profile it should say if they are a member or not.
