I am attempting to attach a picture of my maternal grandfather, Nikola (Nicola on his US Citizenship papers) Vrebac to this e-mail. Nikola was born sometime in the 1890s - his birth was reported from Bosanska Dubica (which has another name now, right?) and his home village was listed as Komlenac. He married my Italian-American grandmother in 1922 or so, and they divorced in the early 1930s. He owned a boarding house in Pennsylvania at that time. They had one child, my mother Roksanda (Roxy) Vrebac Mihajlovich. Nikola remarried to Desanka Tesla, and they had one son, Nick, Jr. Nikola and Desi owned the Belgrade Cafe in Pittsburgh, PA and later Vrebac Tavern in Aliquippa, PA.

Because my mother did not live with her father when she was younger, she does not recall meeting any of his relatives, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. Nikola became a US citizen in 1944 and died in September, 1957.

I saw a phone book with some Vrebac names listed in Komlenac, and wondered if we were related. I am traveling to Belgrade this summer and would like to visit the areas where my grandparents came from. Thank you for any assistance.

My mother found my grandfather's baptismal information. Nikola Vrebac was born on May 15, 1894, in Komlenac. He was listed as the 2nd child of Mile and Simeuna (Miljatovic) Vrebac, farmers who lived in house #14. My mother thought he told her he was the "youngest" or "smallest" of 6 children, though, including two sisters. I told her if this was a 2nd marriage, then both could be true (the baptismal record and her recollection).

I have found one Vrebac family in the Bosna phone book still living in Komlenac, so I thought I would write them. I have also posted in the Bosnia public forum and updated the general forum information as well.

Bosanska Dubica still excists, just Google for it. Maybe you can create a pedigree file for us and attach it here.

Regards,
Sergej

Sergej, I've never tried a pedigree file. I guess I can try to do that and to go back as far as I can go. I'll look into it. Hvala.

I've made a family tree for my mother, but again, I cannot go back very far. Should I try to post in Serbo-Croatian, since I am asking for help from the old country?

Thanks.

Mira, did you have success posting the data in a PAF file? Do you need help with it?

Regards,
Sergej
