Hi - I am seeking information on NOVAKOVIĆ possibly in the Lika/Zrmanja/Velika Popina area.
My great-grandfather was Rade D (Danilo?) Novakovic. He was born 1880s and emigrated to the US in early 1900s. Immigration and naturalization paperwork is....possibly misleading.
Rade D listed his parents in one document as Dan and Stana Novakovic. I also know he had a niece and nephews from one brother - niece and nephews are:
Milan L Novakovic, Masa Novakovic, Bozo L Novakovic, Rade L Novakovic.
Milan L Novakovic emigrated to the US, but his siblings did not. I have Milan's last will and testament which lists Masa, Bozo, and Rade. (My great grandfather, Rade D, was Milan L's estate executor.)
If there are databases/microfilms I can search it would be great.
I would also love to know information on our family slava and patron saint.
I currently have a public tree on ancestry: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/38100340/
Thank you!
- Laura
Hello Laura,
I cannot see the family tree as I need to have an account on Ancestry?
Do you have a screenshot from the Ellis Island records?

@sergej Thanks for the reply! Well - that is where I mentioned the immigration and naturalization records are possibly inaccurate/misleading? My grandfather was always Rade D Novakovic on everything *except* his immigration arrival certificate. See attached - he used an immigration arrival certificate for a "Simo Novakovic" for his naturalization petition, but used his name "Rade Novakovich" on the petition itself. I did find the Ellis Island record for Simo, also attached.
So I am confused?
Thanks!
Whoops, here is the Ellis Island record.
Rade would be short for Radomir. You mentioned the family saint, do you know which one this is? It makes it easier for me to give you additional info. Ellis Island is known for its mistakes, but there is still information that we could use. Do you happen to have the maiden name of Stana maybe?

Sergej
Hi! Thanks so much for your help! Unfortunately I do not know the maiden name of Stana or the family saint 🙁
I think Rade might have been short for Radivoy/Radevoi/Radevoj?
I saw mention of the SERBIAN TRADE ASSOCIATION database, but it looks like it has been taken down?
Thank you!
Yes most websites eventually go do, we managed to be up for 20 years and hope to collect more databases on our own server.
Did you see any icons at the family home? E.g. an icon that would be in the living room?
Yes, Radivoje and other names can be a nickname as well for Rade.
The Croatian Archives are online, did you check our Archival Network page in the Learning Center?

Just following up to see if you managed to find the Archival Network?
