I am seeking assistance in learning more about the Serbian roots of five men who emigrated from Novi Kneževac, Vojvodina Province to the USA.
They arrived in the USA in December 1906 and April 1907. All of them were married when they left Serbia. All of their names were spelled “Perkucsin” on the ship passenger lists. They are:
0 Dusan Perkucin, age 31, arrived 12/13/1906, Ellis Island
0 Elek Perkucin, age unknown, arrived 4/2/1907, Baltimore
0 Svetozar Perkucin, age 33, arrived 4/3/1907, Ellis Island
0 Velimir Perkucin, age 30, arrived 4/3/1907, Ellis Island
0 Basko Perkucin, age 25, arrived 4/3/1907, Ellis Island
It seems like they would be related somehow; especially, Svetozar, Velimir and Basko who arrived on the same ship.
Dusan Perkucin is my grandfather whose name was eventually changed to “Dan Perkuchin.”
0 My grandmother Eva arrived at Ellis Island in the USA on 5/4/1913. Her age was 37. Her name was spelled “Perkucsin” on the ships passenger list.
0 My grandparents gave birth to a son Djuro Perkucin on 6/22/1900 in Austria-Hungary. I am speculating that it was in today’s municipality of Novi Kneževac. My uncle was born there in 1900. Djuro was living in Mokrin in 1958.
0 My grandparents also gave birth to a son Peter Samuel Perkuchin (my father) on 6/16/1914 in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
0 My grandmother Eva’s name has been given many variations in USA documents, including: Erica Perkuchin, Evica (or Evira) Perkuchin, Ersi Zoric (on my father’s birth certificate). Her father’s name is Lazo Zerity (an Ancestry.com interpretation).
A Svetozar Perkucin is listed as the father of Vukosava Rajchich in an U.S., Social Security Claims Index (Ancestry.com listing). Vukosava was born on 11/27/1905 in Novi Kneževac, Yugoslavia. Milka Belancic is listed as Vukosava’s mother. Also, Vukosava’s death date was 10/15/1996.
Thank you for your assistance,
Dan Perkuchin
I would like to see that document referred to by Ancestry.com as they renowned for making mistakes with regard to the Balkan region (others as well). Lazo btw is an Hungarian name. You can check the municipality site at: http://www.noviknezevac.rs/

Sergej
