Dobar Dan,

Aleksandar

I've noticed quite a few posts are in English during my somewhat short browsing of the board, and as such I'm not all too certain as to how many non English speakers there are around here. Please let me know if it would be helpful if I translated the above into English. Thank you.

Zdravo Aleksandar,

We can do either in Serbian or in English. ITs the same here. Fact is that there are more Serbs in diaspora that are interested in their heritage with internet access.

Couple of questions from my side.

1. Do you have Serbian citizenship? If so you can always access the archives yourself when you are in Serbia.
2. You can become a member( student discount you only pay 10 bucks per year ;-) ) and post more information on the member forum. Unfortuannally we dont have any researchers yet in Serbia, we have a job opening for it at www.serbia-today.com
3. You can check the archives page and see to which archive your home town belongs, and write them. You speak Serbian so that wouldnt be hard to do. All you need is the full name and place and date of birth of the person you are looking for.
4. You mention the "grb", before you can start looking into that you will first need to do genealogical research to assertain if your ancestors had one. Not all families have one. If they didnt, you can start thinking about designing your own. But only if you are 100% sure non were used in your family. You can contact our member Sasa Jankovic for that.

Regards,
Sergej

No most likely not. Petko, Petkova or Petkovic are Slavic names with Slavic endings. So they have the same root but different endings. Although there are certain surnames that have different endings and that are still related to each other, genealogical research is always the first step one needs to undertake.

the -vic part in Serbia means son of. In Bulgaria e.g. you will see the -ova ending. Most likely in Slovakia and other Slavic nations as well.

Regards,
Sergej
