Pomoz Bog!

I am looking for further details about my ancestors, where they came from, and where they lived.
Today the PETROVIC "clan" lives in the heart of Serbia (Sumadija), in a village called Veliki Crljeni, which is located 40km south of the capitol city Belgrade.
I know that my grandfather came from Junkovac, which is located near my hometown. His name was Cedomir and he worked as a miner in the Kolubara region, and because of the job, he moved to Veliki Crljeni. The name of my grandfathers mother was Danica and his father was Dragoljub.
My grandfather was a soldier in the second world war. The germans catched him after a while, so he became a prisoner in Slovenia. He survived the concentration camp.

We celebrate the Saint. Steven (Sv. Stefan) which is on the 9th of January. There are some stories, that our PETROVIC "clan" came from Montenegro to Sumadija, but some other stories say, that the clan came from the Vojvodina (north Serbia) region to the Sumadija.

Some additional information: The man of the Petrovics, get green or blue eyes, when they get older.

Bog to pomogo!

Petrovic is from Montenegro. This is a well known fact. Question is only for you when and from where they came. What you need to do is to go to the district archive in your area with the date of birth and name of your grandfather and mother and to check from where they came. Its a detective work. Its good that you know the family trades with the eyes. My family has blond hair and blue eyes and live in Kopaonik and originate from Montenegro as well.

Basically I say you have all the info. Now you just need to go to the archives and start digging.

If you need more info let me know.

Pozdrav,

Regards,
Sergej

Dear Sumadinac,

if your Petrovic came from Montenegro, they are not a clan/tribe (pleme) for themselves. Petrovic are a brotherhood (bratstvo), so there has to be researched to which tribe they belong. As you might already know, a tribe consists of several brotherhoods, and a brotherhood consists of numerous families (porodica) who do not have to share a surname.

Your data on the patron saint (krsna slava) is very valuable. Thanks.

As for Vojvodina, it is possible that Petrovic migrated (escaping from Turks) from Montenegro to Vojvodina (under Habsburg crown), and then to Sumadija (probably after the liberation of Serbia). I propose this as one of the leading points in this research.

I'm looking for my father's family. My father was Nick Petrovic(h) born in Beldgrad 1887. He came to America as a young man. I have a letter that he received in 1961. It is written in Serbian. They called him Baco Petricevic or maybe Petzicevic. It's hard to tell the handwritting clearly on the envelope. The man was his nephew, Milovan Petricevic (or Petzicevic) who lived in Montenegro. I am hoping someone knows this family and can help me with information. I did not know my father very well so have few memory clues to help me. Always thought his name was Petrovic and changed to Petrovich when he came to U.S. This other spelling I'm not sure is a completely different name or just spelled that way in Serbian? Any help would be appreciated on how to find info about others in the family. Thank you for reading.

I have a short book in Serbian about Petrovic family. They were married to some of my Radisic relatives, so I obtained a book on them since I have cousins with the last name Petrovic.
