I am trying to find info on my family, as well history of my family name. We hail from Gospic/Divoselo.
I have heard that a book came out in Croatia that detailed the history of family names from the region. The person who told me this also said that all the Plecas in Croatia decend from two brother who moved from Montenegro between 200-250 years ago. Hvala.
Can you give me a correct spelling of the name?
Is it
1. Pleca,
2. Pleča,
3. Pleća
Regards,
Sergej
Hi Sergei sorry I don't have a serbian latinica font but...the correct spelling of the name is: Plečas (with the s being a sh) so phonetically - plechash.
I can trace the name to the region where you mention it. However, you will need to backtrace yourself the line to see if you end up in Montenegro. I can't find any direct link but the phonebook from Serbia and Montenegro have the name. Plečaš
You will have to write the archives of Croatia with your query. They will respond.
Regards,
Sergej
It is Plećaš.This last name is from Bruvno and Divoselo in Lika(Croatia). They are all Serbs.
For bplecas,
surname of my grandfather is Plećaš.
Just came across this forum and would like to find out more info from bplecas, if possible. My father, Andrew Plecas, parents' were from Gospic and moved to the west coast of Canada in the early 1900's. Have not had much luck in tracing the family roots so far and would be really interested in learning anything that is available.
Karcrawford I've had a little luck digging up info. Drop me an email and I'll fill you in:

My father is from Divoselo. His mother's last name was Plećaš. Her brother Nikola (if we remember good, because she's not alive anymore) migrated to US between 1915 and 1925. She used to say he was in Kansas city, but we hadn't heard anything from him since the second world war.
Nowadays, before the civil war in Yugoslavia, there were, as bplecas says, three families Plećaš or in three different parts of Divoselo lived Plećaš...
Nadaki, we had a relative who I think was named Nikola who lived in either Kansas City of in Nebraska. I wonder if its the same man?
To the interested, with some help I was able to backtrace the Plecas name in Divoselo so far to 1735, to a Plecas who had seven sons.
Nadaki drop me a line. I've done a little research and would like to find out more about your connection to Nikola Plecas in Kansas City.
