I am looking for family members who may still be in Serbia. My grandfather Djuro Radakovic' came to the United States in 1913, and lived in Omaha,Nebraska. In 1920 he went back and found a wife,Stana Prlainovic'. He then came back to the United States. Unfortunately, he died July 3 1924. I have obtained his death certificate. My Great Grandparents were Mike Radakovic' and Jeka(Grgic') Radakovic', who I believe lived in Sadlovac. At this point in time that is all I know of my family history. If any one out there can help with more information. Please e-mail me at [email protected].
Best Regards,
Sheila
Hi Shiela,
Have you found Stana's ship manifest? Perhaps this is it. There is a Stana Radikovik arr June 08, 1920 from someplace called Nokrina next of kin Stana PRALYN from Dalmatie Serbia destination Columbus, OH then Philadelphia is written over it husband Jorge RADIKOVIK 1094 Ben St Columbus OH birthplace Serbia, DUBROKOVITVH The manifest shows she went through a special inquiry. and there is a medical notation on the manifest. Could this be Stana? She may have been born in Dubrovnik.
Of course Djuro nor Stana came from Serbia apparently they came from Croatia, as did most Serbs prior to WWII. Checking the online phone book there is one listing for:

Hi,
Grgic is from Dalmatia from the town of Markovac. There is a huge Serbian population there. If you have the place and date of birth you can write to the local district archive so they can check if they have something in their database for you. That would be my reccomendation to you.

How is the name Grgic' pronounced?
Are there any derivatives?
Thank you.
Just read it as it is. The last "c" you pronounce like the beginning of the word chair.
