Hi,
This message is for anyone who can help. I am doing a genealogy search for part of the Ramnytz family of Akron, Ohio.Usa. The spelling that I have used is the one given to me by a family member. The correct spelling is not known by family members. The first member of this line to come to the USA was Stephen Ramnytz who was born in 1882 in Serbia to the best of my knowledge. he settled in Akron ,Ohio. Since I cannot find him n any census lis or immigration list I have no way of knowing exactly how the spelling changed to the surname Ramnytz. Is anyone familiar with this surname and how it might have been spelled originally? Thanks very much.

Hi Ron,
Not sure if this message is useful, but perhaps Ramnytz was originally Ramnić. Must admit I never heard of this surname. At least in Serbia I believe this surname is obscure.
Might be a Serb originating from Romania? There are many topographic names starting with Ramnic-. Even a bishopric called Râmnic: http://www.vasike.iplus.ro/bishop/
You need to find his immigration records otherwise its impossible to determine from where he was unless you have other docuemtns with information.
