Hello,
Could anyone here please help me further my knowledge of my Gaćeša and Jakšić family history in the Gomirje area? I recently came across the website shown below which made me reconsider the area my ancestors may have come from due to the shifting Serb population around the year 1600. Vojvoda Vuk Jakšić was a resident in Gomirje around this time.
This information led me to this website and the link to the Gomirje records which provided a possible related birth record which includes both Gaćeša and Jakšić surnames on it. Unfortunately I am having difficulty translating the document, would anyone please be able to do a basic translation for me? I thank you in advance!
Any other information relating to the Gaćeša or Jakšić families in Gomirje would be very much appreciated, especially relating to Vojvoda Vuk Jakšić in the 1600's.
The Musulin and Zakula family names also appear as relatives on DNA sites.
Thanks again!
Kind regards
Danica
Hi Danica,
You mean a translation of the picture attached or the website?
Regards,
Sergej
Hi Sergej,
Apologies if my request for translation was unclear! I would like some assistance in translating the attached picture. Thank you!
Hi Danica,
Ill take a look at the picture you attached. We have some articles about the Gomirje region on our site that might be interesting for you. From where did you get the picture? The surnames are typical for the Knin area so you are in the right location. However, the wars did a lot of damage there and getting information is a painstaking job.

Sergej
Hi Sergei,
Thank you for offering to take a closer look at the document! There is no need to rush, I am very patient. Thank you! Yes, I have read the articles on your site relating to Gomirje, they have been very interesting and useful in my personal research! I located the document in the Gomirje Church Book of 1800 through the Family Search website. Yes, I agree, it has been very difficult trying to find information on my ancestors due to the fact that relevant Church Books containing vital records are so fragmentary or non existent due to the ravages of war. I will persist as it is important for me to know who my ancestors were.
Can you please provide us with the link from the LDS site? It will help us with the image translation.
Hi Zarevac,
I'm sorry I can't find a way to send you a link to the FamilySearch website page without a log in! Is there a way I could send you a larger image instead?
Thanks!
Hi Zarevac,
I have just emailed larger images as requested.
Thank you!
We got it, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Regards,
Sergej
Did we send you what we translated btw?
Regards,
Sergej
Hi Sergei, Not yet, but that's ok! Thanks!
Hi Danica,
I had someone look at it, but it was hard to make out all the details.
The sidebar on the left states the year, 1800 and the month; January.
The second line reads that the father is "Jermanovov" (unclear) Jakšić. Wife's name Stana.
Third line: Residents of Gomirenje (Gomirje).
Fourth line: Priest; Monarch Teofan Orlić *or Brlić
Fifht line: Parish and church of unreadable
Sixt line: unreadable
Eight line: Kum (godfather) Božo
Ninth line: Nikola Gaćeša
Tenth line: Witness Teržič
If we would have a better scan I bet we could make more out of it. But, Gomirje has been hit hard during the wars and the churches there as well. Some of them don't exist anymore. I would advice going to this site and ask one of the Eparchy to assist you.

The same for the Musulin and Žakula surnames. They are regional from that area and the Eparchy and the church there should have all the information if there is anything left. Because they are rare surnames and regional you can try the phonebook of Gomirje and approach people locally. If you do meet a relative usually they can help fill in the blanks.

Sergej
