Edward Roth was born 17 October 1848. He emigrated to the USA when he was only about 14 years old, in 1862. The emigration list notes that he was from Rothkirchen in Yugoslavia. I know that there were settlements of German-speaking people east of Belgrade--Weiskirchen is the larger town, with Rothkirchen close by. Today the larger town is called Bela Crvka, I believe. Oral history in the family says that Roth emigrated to escape conscription in the armed services. He did not come to the USA with other family members.
If anyone is able to assist me in learning more about the ancestry of Edward Roth, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hello,
Presuming they were Donauschwaben:
This will give you some more options then many Serbs since the Catholic records have already been microfilmed and you can find the at http://www.familysearch.org
However it wouldn't hurt to do the following:
Write to:
Roman Catholic Church
Archbishop Stanislav Kočevar
Svetozara Markovica 20,
11000 Belgrade
Serbia-Montenegro
Archives of Bela Crkva
Istorijski arhiv
1 Oktobra
Bela Crkva
Serbia-Montenegro
You can also check this site: http://www.belacrkva.co.yu/
If your family was Orthodox of faith then you could only do work through the archives. Bad things is that Serbian Orthodox info is not microfilmed.

Sergej
Thank you, Mr. Ceprej, for providing links to me. I left messages on the guestbook. Duane Lamers
The archives of Vojvodina of the Catholic and Protestant churches have been microflimed. You can access them through the Family History Library of the LDS church.

Sergej
Can you tell me if the Serbian Orthodox records have been filmed for Vojvodina or if they are in the process of filming them? Thank you for helping! Judy
A very small amount only.
Regards,
Sergej
