To those of you who are searching family in Croatia. Please check the Family History Library of the LDS church. They have almost finished microfilming in Croatia and you can now search all records, including the ones of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Now lets pray the Serbian government will give them access to our archives before they rot away.

Sergej
Sergej, I think that is great! I just checked and we have a LDS History Center a couple of towns over! I will check into that when my schedule and there open times match up. Its worth a shot!!

Sergej, The LDS may be almost done. But you can not access them yet. I know I tried today!!
Sheila
I have the record index on CD here with me. I think you need to check with www.familysearch.org and keep in mind to search for the biggest city nearby the place you are looking for.

Sergej
Seregej, I spent 3 hours yesterday at the LDS and the only info they had was the one I told you about. Perhaps they are not trained enough to know where to look! I do plan on going back again. I liked that place!!

Hi Sergej,
I've started my family search by visiting the LDS yesterday. The ladies were helpful and showed me how to search on the website and order film for veiwing. However, when I got home and searched for records in the nearest towns, then larger towns.. Most of the records on hand only relate to Roman Catholic Churches. I did come across a couple of films that were from Othrodox churches but they were either in the wrong time period or related to the Catholic congregation. In your post above u mention Orthodox records being on file.. Am I missing something.
My family is from Biovicino Selo and Kistanje.. Knin is the next largest town. As far as I know they have lived there for a long time in the same place.
I know the names of the nearest local churches to both villages, mothers and fathers side. I know the names and places of birth of all 4 grandaprents. but not the year of birth..It would be early 1900's at a guess. I know some of the names of my great grandparents..Not maiden names though..
I'm not sure what my next step would be. I'm thinking to write to the orthodox churches in the area? But not sure which one would be the best? There are so many..and how much information i can request at any one time.. How does it all work..? Is there a standard letter for these sorts of requests.
I have also written to my uncle who would have a bit more information on my mothers side. He may come up with a maiden name or 2 for some of my great grandparents.
Would appreciate any help..
Gordana
This is the LDS site where im looking...
Yes, write the Serbian Orthodox Church in the area. The local cleregy should be able to tell you directly what they still have and what not. Also, contact the Croatian state archives, they are willing to help and are completely microfilmed!

Sergej
Thanks Sergej,
Yes i emailed the Serbian Orthodox Church in Knin a few weeks ago..asking for information but no reply as yet...
Did you try via Yugaya aka Jugoslava? She might know a route.
Happy new year btw!
Yes she did - the *church time* and *our* time differ - in their time writing back after a month or two is not that long ( if you are lucky enough to get a reply in first attempt at all)
I've been away but am back now and will call via phone some more , that usually gets me at least to find a priest willing to communicate.
