I am trying to find out more about my ancestors. My father's name was Godic when he was born in Zivkovic Kosa, Vojnic (the one near Karlovac) in 1895. When he came to the U.S. in 1912, he changed the name to Godich to reflect the pronunciation.
My grandfather's name was Stojan Godic. He mad several trips between Croatia and Pennsylvania at the beginning of the 20th century (Connellsville and Wilmerding in PA) and eventually died somewhere in the U.S. some time between 1909 and 1912.
I don't know anything about my grandfather's parents except that I understand he was born a Krivokuca but his father died when he and one brother were very young, so they took the name of their stepfather. The other brothers were older and continued to identify as Krivokucas. Some of them also came to the U.S. at the turn of the century, because my grandfather would come to live with one of them or vice versa!
I still have two older cousins who live in Zivkovic Kosa, but they have no records of the family, since so much was destroyed in the wars. I know two cousins lived in Belgrade after WWII.
I know there are different Godics who are not directly related - my sister says our Slava was St. Jovan. So maybe somebody can relate to that?
I would be happy to hear from you if you have any information to share, or if you live near Belgrade or Zagreb and might be able to help me locate some of my ancestors' church or civil records.
Thank you
