Hello,
I would very much appreciated a little (or more) help with my research.
To begin with the “little” site: could you help me locate Rusevți (Rusevțe) and Pedlanschi towns, in Bansca distr.?
On the “more” side, I am very interested in exploring my Serbian side of ancestry and would appreciate and support any help received.
A little context: I have an official translation from Serbian to Romanian, dated 1889, of a baptism document from 1847. It says that my great-great grandfather was baptized in the orthodox church from Rusevțe in 1847. That he was born from parents Bojo and Petra Ciumura. That he was named Rafail from his godfather Rafail Covacevici, inhabitant of Pedlanschi town. And he was baptised by priest Mihail Ciurkovici.
I can’t seem to find any info about those towns and I guess I’m doing something wrong.
All the best!
Tudor
Hello Tudor,
A quick question from my side. Do you live in the region?
Hello Zarevac. Yes, I do. I am from Romania. Our paternal ancestors were railway workers and as far as we know they came from Serbia when the Romanian railway system began to be developed.
Ok, do you have images from those documents you are talking about? Spelling is very important with these towns.
Yes. I am not sure it will help much, since I'm rather positive I used the spelling mentioned in the document, but this is what I have. My concern is that maybe some error was in that translation... I attach the pic.
Yea, the translation is giving me some problems. I am ending up in Slovakia with the way these names are translated. Do you have any access to the Serbian version of the document?
Regards,
Sergej
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I do not have the Serbian document.
I did go for a bit on a Slovakian trail but with not much success (a Slovakian acquintance replied to me "Rusevți/Rusevțe or Pedlanschi do not ring any bell to me. Sounds more Serbian than Slovak. Although we do have a region of Banská Bystrica (and a city of that name, as well as Banská Štiavnica - while "Banská" means "mining" - as these are old mining cities").
Do you have any suggestions on how I can proceed to explore this more? I understand this may require more effort and probably costs...
Well, if you can get your hands on a copy of that original before it was translated then I can rule out if its Slovakian or not.
