Re: Brotherhoods
Can anyone tell me about the brotherhood of Stajic and the meaning behind brotherhoods? Hvala! Judy
Dear Djudi,
Regarding the question about surname Stajić.
Stajići are brotherhood of the clan or tribe Maleševci.
About brotherhood:
The brotherhood is only the part of the clan, and brootherhoods constitute clan. For example, founder of the clan Maleševci is Duke Maleš. He had eight sons, and all of them had surname Maleševci(from name Maleš). Their sons take a new surnames from names of their parent. Aleksa result to Aleksic, from Vujica result to Vujicic, etc. It is like chain and rings. Many rings constitute chain.
If your surname is Stajic and your family saint patron is Saint Ignjatije (Sveti Ignjatije) it is 100% that you belong to Malesevci clan. If your family does not praise Saint Ignjatije, but some other saint, you must search your relatives with clan who praise the same saint as you.
Post your full knowledge about your family and maybe we will help you. Do not forget mention your family saint patron.
Bye,
Brane
Dear Brane, Great information! Stajic is on the maternal side and I am not sure about the Patron Saint on the maternal side. I assume the Patron Saint is usually from the husband's side of the family? May I ask if it is possible for a Stajic to belong to no brotherhood or do all Serbians belong to a brotherhood? This is all new to me and I find it fascinating! Thanks for the help! Judy
When you marry you assume the patron of your husband.
Its possible to belong to a brotherhood or that one of your ancestors was part of a brotherhood. Currently the usage of clans and brotherhoods is only used in the rural areas of Montenegro and south Serbia. If there is no knowledge in your family of belonging to a brotherhood that its clear that your branch didnt activly participate in a brotherhood for some time.
Also check the article section on surnames. Its possible you are named after a brotherhood but that there is no bloodrelation whatsoever.

Sergej
Dragi Sergej, Hvala! I did see the name Stajic in the list of brotherhoods but would have no idea how to trace the bloodlines. Perhaps this will all fall into place one day when I find out more about the Stajic family of Vojvodina. Judy
Can I get some information regarding brotherhood Stojić? Our family saint patron is Saint Arhangel Mihailo. Thanks in advance! Marija
Open the new topic and put your full knowledge about this brotherhood. Maybe someone have some information.

Tu je i rodoslov bratstva Milačića od Kuča.
