Would like any info on the last name Solaja.
Please read the FAQ and provide more information. Е olaja is a Serbian surname that originates from Oćestovo, Zadar, Pač‘ene in Dalmatia.
If it is the same family as yours is very hard to say.

Sergej
Grandpa was VIdok Solaja born in Gacko Herzokovena 1893 or so.
Then you need to check with city hall on his information and with the district archives. See if there is a link between your surname and the one I mentioned.

Sergej
Е olaja is a Surname originate from region Stari Vlah (The border region bettwen Serbia, Montenegro and Hercegovina). They were lived (and probably they still live there) in Nadanići, Gračanica and Vrbiva (Gacko region). Also in village Lazarici live familly Е olaja, very old familly with duke tittle. They are praising saint Toma.
They also live in Potkozarje region(North-west Bosnia) and they also came there from Stari Vlah. This brotherhood are praising saint Jovan.
We could be related. My grandfather, Mitar Solaja was born in Lazarici, Gacko, Bosna i Hercegovina in 1926. His father's (my great grandfather), name was Rade Solaja. Rade Solaja came to the United States a few years before the First World War to work there. He stayed for a few years, but went back to fight for Serbia. I ended up getting in touch with a woman named Vicky from the United States (if you want more details, we can get in touch) who is his granddaughter.
Our slava is Saint Toma (as Brane mentioned in the previous post) which we celebrate on October 19. I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
I hope you will get this.
My grandmother is born in Nadanici in Solaja family. Her father was Ljuban from Spasoje and Ilinka. Brother of Ljuban was actually Vidak Solaja who left in 1923 for US and nobody ever heard from him. The only thing we know, well me and my grandmother, is that he had daughter and she was married as 12 years old girl.
If you do believe that you are a cousin of my mother please let me know we will be very happy to hear from you and whereabouts of Vidak (especially my grandmother).
