Greetings!!
I will be traveling once again to Srbija in a little over a month and am seeking help in finding out about my grandfather, Ivo Stanivukovic, who was from Ilinci/Srem - as was the rest of my family.
Please reply with questions that may help you help me as I am connected to my family in Srbija, but no one seems to be able to tell me too much about Deda Ivo.
Thank you very much for your help & I look forward to hearing from you!
How will you go and where exactly? Who do you plan to visit? Do you speak the language?
Regards,
Sergej
Hi Djordjia,
Ilinci belongs to the municipality of Sid (SHEED) near Sremska Mitrovica. http://www.opstinasid.org - has an engish version and you may want to check it out before visiting.
However, you would need to research the archives in Sremska Mitrovica for your grandfather's records. The archive has an "e-request" that isn't active yet at http://www.arhivsrem.org.yu . You may be able to fill it out soon though as they are working on it. The archive is very rich in records up to the early 1900's and recieves research requests from all over the world. There are only 16 employees at the archive so time is scrace. Since you are planning a trip to these parts, it would be best if you visited the archives yourself.
As Sergej asked - do you speak the language? Are you familliar with the archives and bureacreacy in the region?
Be sure to plan ahead and let us know if you would like us to recommend an interpreter or guide. And, of course, be sure to let us know how you did and post your findings on the site!
Good luck to you and have a nice trip -
