Hi There,

I am new to this forum, and together with my wife, am trying to research more information on the history of the surname Pocuca. This is the surname of my wife's father, and he was born in Serbia. His father is Dusan Pocuca. I believe he was born in Zagreb, but cannot be certain. Any information that can be provided on this Surname, including meanings, family crests, or additional family tree information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Počuča is from Vrlika, Dalmatia.
Information could be found there in the archives.

Thank you for the update. I followed up with my father in law, and he thinks the family saint is nikola, or nicholas? I don't know if that sounds right. I can't seem to access any other archives. Do you know detailed information about the surname (like the meaning, or the crest that is associated with it?). I did receive information from another source that the name was in fact from Northern Albania. Is the name Serbian, Croatian, Albanian? Thanks

Family saint could be Nikola yes, its a common saint. THe name is Serbian and originates from the town I mentioned. Its not Albanian or Croatian in the sense that it originated from there.
Most likely no coat of arms, but you would have to check Siebmacher for that to make sure. Which archives did you check?

Sergej

Hi again. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I live in Canada, and I am finding it very difficult to get a hold of a copy of The Siebmachers Wappenbuch. Any recommendations or sources? Also, what resource would I use to identify birth records for ancestors of my wife and her father's family?

Also check the FAQ: http://www.rodoslovlje.com/novo/showsection.php?sectionID=8 and http://www.rodoslovlje.com/novo/showarticle.php?articleID=26

The Coat of Arms is the last item you should worry about.

Sergej
