I am a new non-Serbian speaking member, with the member name “Dusan.trvl”. My birth name is Dan Perkuchin.

In the Archival Network interactive system of the Learning Center, I found three map locations in the Vojvodina Province, North Banat District that appeared promising for learning about my paternal Serbian ancestors. Namely, my grandfather’s and grandmother’s early lives in Serbia (1875 thru 1913), as well as about my uncle who lived his entire life in Serbia (1900 until the unknown date of his death; last communication from him was in 1958).

The three most likely locations where their archives may exist, are Senta (regarding my grandparents’ and uncle’s early lives), Kikinda (for my uncle, who lived in Mokrin in 1958) and Zrenjanin (for its close proximity to Novi Sad).

Unfortunately, when I clicked on the map markers, a pop-up window did not open with relevant information about the respective archives. I am presuming that the information will be added at a future date.

My wife and I, and our two oldest children, are arriving in Serbia for the first time ever on Thursday, April 28, 2016. It will be a short trip of four full days. We plan to visit the Novi Kneževac and the Kikinda districts. With some uncertainty, I believe both grandparents resided in the Novi Kneževac district before emigrating to the USA (December 1906, for my grandfather, and May 1913 for my grandmother). My father was born in the USA. He never met his brother, who was approximately 14 years older than him.

Is anyone able to direct me to places I should visit, or communicate with, to learn about the archives that may contain information about my paternal grandparents’ and uncle’s Serbian surname; Perkucin?

Unfortunately, I have not been able to learn who the patron saint is for the Novi Kneževac Perkucins.

I surmise that my grandparents were members of an Orthodox Church in the Novi Kneževac District.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Strange, just used Edge and it works fine from this end.

Either way, the address info for both archives are as follows:

IA Zrenjanin
Trg slobode 10
23000 Zrenjanin
http://www.arhivzrenjanin.org.rs/

IA Senta
Glavni trg 1
24400 Senta
024 811 037

Now with regard to the archives, they are open for citizens and not foreigners. So most likely you need to find someone who can check them out for you. You can also try the national phonebook for those places to see if anyone with the same surname still lives there. You should use the correct spelling if you: Perkučin

You can also try asking the local priests if they know something about your family. They usually are willing to help and you might even run into family. There are a lot of small places in Vojvodina these days that are being abandoned as most of the youth lives in the cities.

Regards,
Sergej
