Hi everyone, I am searching for my great grandmother's relatives. They may be in Croatia or Belgrade, unfortunately I am working a very small amount of information. My great grandmother, Duska Tatalovic, immigrated to the United States in the 1920's as a male order bride. She always described herself as a Serbian, but she also used to talk about the Lika's. I believe Lika is a mountainous region in Croatia that played a part with the Ottomans. So, if anyone has any information on the last name Tatalovic, or just has some helpful tips on searching for family memebers, please let me know.
Thanks - Emily
http://www.ellisisland.org/default.asp ...through that site you could find many Tatalovic immigrants and see from where they did came to usa...at least something to begin with, then make contact with Tatalovic people from those places and ask them if they know anything about your ggmother...
Go to the frontpage of this site and use the search function for EllisIsland to get more additional tips.
Regards,
Sergej
I have in my Tree Smilja Tatalovic ( 1901-1987) from Dreznica, Croatia, married with Jovan Orlich (1897-1976), died in Gary, Indiana USA.
Hvala unapred
TATALOVIĆ family is very large and prominent family from Lika area in Croatia. They are listed as one of the founding families of monastery Gomirje in 1600. A large number of them is from the town of Drežnica near Ogulin. Birth and marriage records from the area kept by Serbian Orthodox Church are available through Croatian National Archives where they were taken in 1941. Some of those old records are available in municipal officies in Ogulin, Karlovac and Vrbovsko. Try there.
After the WWII large number of families from Tatalović "clan" were forced to relocate to northern Serbia. Many descendants of these so-called "colonists" today come from the village of Bajmok, near Subotica, and they can maybe also help with information about their Lika ancestors.
Emily,
My name is Sam Orlich Jr. My father, Sam Orlich Sr. is the youngest child of Jovo and Smilja Orlich of Gary, Indiana. To my knowlege there are no Tatalovich's here in Northwest Indiana left alive. Smilja had several brothers and sisters. Michael, Rudy who was once a pro golfer, Smilja, Mildred, Loretta and Dorothy. All are dead and gone. They were raised in nearby Hammond, Indiana. All were married and had children of their own. My father never spoke much of the Tatalovich side so there isn't much I can really tell you. I can tell you that my father and his brother and two sisters were very close with all of them when they were younger. My father used to tell my how miserable Deda Tatalovich's funeral was when he was a young boy. If you get this reply you can contact me anytime. Glad I found someone from the other side of the family. Good luck always.
