We have had no history on our family predating my grandparents. I have recently found information where they immigrated to the United States, but it was under their Americanized names(Enich). The documents I have provided has their given names which I would like to have help translating. Once they are translated I would also like assistance in tracing back the family tree even farther. The info that I have from the 1910 US census shows My G.Grandfather was born abt 1881 and arrived in Pennsylvania in 1903. My G.Grandmother was born in 1885 and arrived separately in Pennsylvania in 1904. They are both listed as Aust Servian as a nationality. Here is a link to the photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmV1Dx4N

Thank you!!

Yes, This is all I’ve been able to find. My mother is 88 years old now and knows nothing about her family on her fathers side. I look forward to connect the dots between our countries. I appreciate your willingness to help!

Thank you Zarevac. I appreciate you doing this for me. I do find it interesting that her last name differs on the headstone versus the baptismal record. She died during childbirth and they were still married at that time.

I think this might have to do with the status of the marriage (church) legally. Other than that I couldn't think of a reason why.

Sergej

What do you suggest as a next step in my research? I would like to learn more about their lives and lineage in Serbia. This is a very important journey for me. I am also currently trying to find their arrival information into the US, but that has proven to be elusive so far.

Thank you so much!

I would contact the Serbian community in Chicago and see if there are people that still have a direct link with Trebinje. Serbia is a country where networking is important and the community in Chicago can help you out with a lot of practical questions, customs etc. And, you might never know who you run into.

There are research bureaus on the internet that you can hire to do research for you on your behave in Serbia/Bosnia. If you don't speak the language I wouldn't recommend going there for research. Sightseeing etc, yes, but not research. Things move at a different pace there 😉

Where do live now? Close to Chicago? If not I can look for a community near you.

Regards,
Sergej

Thank you for your response. They lived in Chicago until she died during childbirth in 1916. From there he took his sons to Butte Montana where they worked in the mines for most of their lives. I live near there in Lewiston Idaho.
I’ve ran their names in every possible combination I could through the Ellis Island website with no luck. It’s so frustrating. I would so appreciate any contact information you would be able to provide to help me further my research. Thank you again for your willingness to help!
