My paternal great-grandmother was born Danica Yerkovic (spelling could be "Americanized") around 1865. I am not sure where exactly she was from, but when she and my great-grandfather Stefan Culic emigrated to the US, they wrote that they were from Stapar. I am assuming that they married sometime in the 1880s, and so would not have lived too far apart.
Since I have had no luck finding Culic relatives (a letter to the lone Culic remaining in Stapar has gone un-answered, as has an e-mail to another Culic), I thought I would try another branch of my family tree.
For those of you who celebrate Orthodox Christmas, Mir Bozhi, Hristos se Rodi!
Thank you for any information or thoughts on finding more information.
You should check with Ellis Island for records. There is a SGS member that is doing research in the Stapar region. It would help to know what paths you already followed thus far.
Regards,
Sergej
The third son of Danica and Stefan Culic, named Trifun not Rade, was married in Stapar and he had one year aged son Kosta. For this reson he did not emigrated with his parents in United States 1921. The second daughter of Danica and Stefan, Zorka was married in Erdut (Croatia) and also did not emigrated with her parents. Several months later Zorka and Milorad joined her parents in U.S., but my grandfather Trifun never. So I am Momir Culic, born in Stapar, where there is only one Culic's family. Unfortunately Mira didn't find them in 2008. I am living in Belgrade and would like to contact Mira or any other relatives. My English is not so good, but we could communicate by email [email protected].
P.S. Corect family name of Danica is Jerkovic.
